(Sam Dillemans – The Madness in the Detail)"

It would be hard to find someone who has never heard of Van Gogh, but are great painters' names still relevant? The portrait of contemporary painter Sam Dillemans, aims to answer that question. To him, Van Gogh, Picasso or Goya are not painters of the past but of the present. They inspire him every day and their overwhelming genius sometimes even depresses him. “Most documentaries about artists in our country are only capturing what they do, but we wanted from the beginning of the project to make a movie that was also beautiful to look at. Not a portrait involving friends and family and critics, no, only one person, not only talking about his passion, but showing how he does it at the same time. There is an atmosphere of solitude in the story, but we filmed with two cameras, and there were constantly nine people involved. To be flies on the wall, that was the ambition and we like to believe we succeeded in that, we were a lot of little flies.” - Luc Lemaitre, Sam De Graeve
